Chrome history guide
How to Search Chrome History by Date or Date Range
Find Chrome history from a specific day or date range. Compare Chrome’s built-in history with Seekmory’s local date and website filters.
A specific day, a date range, or last week
- 01
For Chrome’s original History page, open chrome://history before installing a history-replacement extension. Search a remembered word or domain, then inspect the day groups. Chrome’s delete-data time range is a deletion control, not a history-search filter.
- 02
After opening Seekmory and letting the initial import finish, enter from:2026-08-01 until:2026-08-01 for one day, or from:2026-08-01 until:2026-08-07 for August 1–7 inclusive, using local dates. Replace the dates with your own. Add site:github.com to restrict the website.
- 03
Natural phrases such as last week are interpreted by Seekmory. Check the displayed date chips before relying on them. Date filters require retained visit-day records; these cover the current month and previous 11 months. For an older archived page, try keywords without a date filter.
Try this in Seekmory
These examples show how a vague memory becomes a focused query. Use only the clues that are true for your situation.
A design video from last week
last week site:youtube.com design systems
Combines time, domain, and topic.
A recent local AI article
3 days ago local AI
Uses a natural date and a distinctive subject.
A travel page from the previous month
last month travel guide
Starts broad enough for an uncertain date.
An exact phrase from a page
"local-first software"
Quoted wording is useful when the phrase is reliable.
Research viewed on a laptop
research last week
Run the query, then select the laptop source filter.
A page from one domain
site:example.com SQLite
Pairs a known website with a technical term.
If the page does not appear
A failed first query usually means one clue is too narrow or worded differently—not necessarily that the page is absent.
- Widen the time range
Replace an exact day with a week or month if you are not certain when you opened the page.
- Remove a possibly wrong domain
Search the topic without the site filter; the same content may have been viewed on a different host or mirror.
- Try the URL or product spelling
Technical names, error codes, people, and brand spellings are often stronger clues than a broad description.
- Switch the source device
A page from a locally available synced Chrome Session may be attributed to another device.
- Check the archive boundary
Seekmory cannot retrieve an Incognito visit, information that was never stored, or history deleted before it entered the Seekmory archive.
What stays local during the search
Seekmory processes browsing history, page metadata, queries, embeddings, and indexes on your device. It stores page titles, full destination URLs, bounded short summaries, visit times, visit counts, and an available device source. It does not store full page bodies, passwords, form entries, authentication cookies, or payment information. Keyword search remains usable while the background title-vector index is still being built.
Questions about searching Chrome history by date
Can I search Chrome history for one specific day?
After opening Seekmory and letting the initial import finish, enter from:2026-08-01 until:2026-08-01 for one day, or from:2026-08-01 until:2026-08-07 for August 1–7 inclusive, using local dates. Replace the dates with your own. Add site:github.com to restrict the website.
Can I combine a date and a website?
In Chrome’s built-in History page, search a title word or domain and browse the dated results. For an explicit range in Seekmory, use from:2026-08-01 until:2026-08-07, then add a keyword or site. These operators are Seekmory syntax, not instructions for Chrome’s built-in search.
Can I search before local AI indexing finishes?
Yes. Seekmory writes imported title text and keyword-search data before background title vectors. Keyword search remains available while vector indexing continues in low-priority slices.
Can Seekmory search history from another device?
Seekmory can merge synced Chrome Sessions that Chrome makes available locally and filter results by source. It does not upload history or provide its own cloud synchronization service.
Can Seekmory recover deleted or Incognito history?
No. It cannot reconstruct visits deleted before archiving, reveal Incognito activity, or search data that was never stored.
